Message from the Superintendent
Image

Dear Parents, Staff and Friends of Banning Unified School District,

Location, location, location.  This may be the top three criteria for buying and selling real estate, but it is also good advice in the education arena.  Knowing the academic location of the students we serve and moving them along the learning continuum is pivotal to student achievement.

Banning Unified School District staff is adept in the use of a spectrum of instruments that assist in identifying student academic strengths and growth areas.  These instruments generate “locational” data, unique to each student, which the teacher utilizes as a guide to monitor student progress toward meeting grade level standards.  Students benefit as a result of receiving timely, specific feedback about their learning.  Teachers benefit as a result of receiving timely, specific feedback about each student’s progress and parents benefit as a result of receiving timely, specific feedback of their child’s learning.  Total alignment among all stakeholders, student/ teacher/ parent, creates a strong partnership for teaching and learning.

The “locational” data, once analyzed by the teacher, is used to design instructional activities for students.  Activities can range from remediation to acceleration, thereby allowing students to either go beyond and stretch their learning or review concepts not yet mastered.  Teachers work with one another and with Instructional Coaches to collaborate and build a repertoire of programs and activities to ensure each student receives the appropriate support for his/her academic needs.

The academic growth that has been demonstrated in Banning Unified School District is, in part, the result of teachers and administrators knowing the academic location of each student served.

If location, location, location is valuable to real estate agents in achieving the best results, then it is equally as valuable in achieving the best results for students. If you would like more information regarding the process of monitoring student learning, please contact Gordon Fisher, Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and he would be more than happy to share the outstanding work done on behalf of students in Banning Unified School District.

Sincerely,

Lynne B. Kennedy
